Here’s a checklist of things to do before publishing:

• Login as ps124student
• click “New Post” at the top of the page
• check the box next to “Student Content” Category
• in the “Tags” box, type your first name and last initial — click Enter/Return
• in the “Tags” box, type your teacher’s name and 08-09 (like this Mr. Rhys’ Class 08-09) — click Enter/Return
• in the “Tags” box, type all of the key words that go with your main ideas
• check your spelling, punctuation and capitalization
• click “Publish”
• tell everyone you know to go see your work!!!

Hello my name Amadou. The b team will be interviewing Nicholas Cage. We will be also be doing videos, writing reports, and writing about good movies!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mr. Marsano’s class is working on an exciting video project on global warming.  Check out Mr. Marsano’s Class Blog to follow his lesson plan and progress, and look for the finished videos in the Spring.

Today, Class 4-308 is going to be using the Internet for research using the Portaportal web site that Ms. Caputo set up.

I have a question for the class before we start: Is searching through web sites on Poartaportal more helpful than using a regular search engine like Google? Why or why not?

Whenever we use the computers for research, typing practice, or publishing our work to the school web sites (blogs), we want to follow some simple rules. Below is a list of basics.

Stay Safe!

• Ideas and First Names ONLY!
• Never share personal information over the Internet
• DO NOT type email addresses
• DO NOT type last name
• DO NOT type home addresses or phone numbers

Publish Quality Work!

• Think of your audience: students, teachers, parents, friends around the world…
• Check your spelling
• Check your spacing
• Check for capitialization
• Check for punctuation

Take care of our tools!

• Carry the laptops with 2 hands
• Shut down the computers correctly. This saves energy and lets them rest!
• Put laptops on their numbered shelf
• Plug in the laptops
• Don’t touch the laptop screens or projector lenses

Typing basics — Why Practice?:

Good typing is a key skill that will allow you to write reports on the Internet, publish writing on the blog, and communicate with people all over the world through the Internet. To get fast takes practice.

Here some goals to focus on when practicing:

1. Start with your fingers on HOME ROW (see the picture on the right).
   Hint: there are little bumps on the “F” and “J” keys that help you get your pointer fingers in the right place without looking.
2. Learn to know where all of the letters and numbers are on the keyboard.
3. When you have mastered the first 2 goals, try typing with your hands on home row, not looking at the keys — you should already be able to do “f”, “j” and the space bar .

1. Type 2 Learn : typing basics and games on some school computers
2. Powertyping.com: skill-building games, speed tests, and typing basics you can practice on from any computer with an Internet connection. Here are direct links to the best games:
